Rest In Peace: Stelena
She watched the sun slide beneath the clouds, ending the dreadful day on which her life had ended. Through the tears, she watched the stars begin to light up the dark sky, and the moon slowly replace the sun’s fading glow.
Elena had no idea how long she’d been crying. The hours had all blended together, the minutes had simply been washed away. Since that first breath, that first breath that was the start of it all, Elena had given up. She had given up on her life, on everything that was giving her the will to move forward.
It wasn’t worth it anymore. Elena never wanted this. She never wanted to be a monster.
Pulling her knees up to her chest, Elena hugged them to her, hiding her face from view.
“Elena.”
Looking up, Elena caught a glimpse of Stefan’s tear stained face before he turned, hiding from her. He had disappeared moments after she’d woken up, the emotions seeming to get the best of him.
Huddled in the darkest corner of the room, Elena slowly began to wipe her tears. It didn’t help however, as they were soon replaced by more.
“I don’t want to be a monster, Stefan.”
The words escaped in a choked sob; so much pain, and hurt, and anger hidden behind them. But before another tear could fall, Stefan’s arms were around her shaking body. Elena clung to him then, holding on with everything she had left. Stefan gently kissed the top of her head, stroking his fingers through Elena’s hair.
“Shh. I’m here, I’m here. You’re going to be okay, I promise.”
She listened to his comforting words, trying to let them sooth her. Trying to find a reason to live.
And then Elena remembered
She remembered Stefan, gently consoling her, then his lips kissing hers after so long. She remembered fighting so hard to bring him back, to get him to feel again. And finally, she remembered her choice.
“Stefan? Stefan, it was you. I was coming back for you.”
Elena lifted her head, not moving the rest of her body away from his.
“I chose you.”
Her fingers lightly traced his cheek, their eyes locking.
Stefan shook his head, refusing to believe it. Here was his Elena, becoming a monster, becoming her worst nightmare.
Yet she had chosen him. Him.
“Elena….”
His eyes brimmed with tears, as his hands cradled Elena’s cheeks. She intertwined her fingers with his, leaning forward until their foreheads touched.
“No Stefan, listen,” she whispered. “I lost you once, I’m not losing you again. And even though I don’t know what’s going to happen to me, Stefan, I want you here with me. Ineed you here with me. Stefan, I love you.”
Hearing those hushed words, Stefan broke. He let the tears fall, cradling Elena in his arms.
Then, despite the fact that she was going to be a vampire, and despite the fact she was deathly afraid, Elena found the will to live. It was Stefan. He gave her a reason. He gave her back the strength to continue on.
“I love you,” Stefan murmured through his tears, before he touched his lips to Elena’s.
And in that kiss, was a promise. A promise to each other. A promise of a better future; and a promise of a new tomorrow; together.
OMG this is beautiful! Love it! ♥
